Routines shape our daily lives, we do the same thing every day (for the most part). Travel to the same shops, eat the same food, sleep in the same bed, run the same routes – this is a natural human condition, one that protects us from the dangers of the unknown.
As a trader, I am a creature of habit. I trade the same way, scan for stocks the same way, etc. This is what allows me to be successful at what I do, if my routine (in trading) changed frequently I would never become an expert on my strategy and my emotions to the point necessary to become a successful trader.
So, what happens when people get off their normal routines? Well, obviously the level of comfort will decrease as they are forced into the unknown but along with that the potential for growth expands rapidly. As a trader, you need to be consistent and routine in enacting your process but as a person it can be beneficial to step out once in a while and experience something new, something that lets you grow.
As humans, we have the natural ability to adapt to our environments so when something new does come around it won’t take you long before it feels like ‘normal’. When this is the case, perhaps it’s time to venture out again and broaden your experiences some more. You’ll be glad you did in the future.
Have a great weekend, the outdoors is waiting.
